Methodism Classes Offered Summer 2021

Methodism Classes

Once again the Catawba Valley District is offering classes on Methodism for clergy and laity who serve in leadership positions in your church.

Dr. Jonathan LeMaster-Smith holds a PhD from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Christian Education and Congregational Studies. He regularly teaches United Methodist studies for Garrett-Evangelical, as well as courses in faith formation and discipleship for various schools. 

There are three 2-day classes offered this summer: UM History, UM Doctrine, and UM Polity.  Each class consists of 2 days of instruction, held on a Friday - Saturday. The cost for each 2-day class will be $50, which covers the cost of refreshments and lunches.  (NOTE: The Catawba Valley District will provide a $25 scholarship for all registrants who are members of the CV District.  Your total cost will be $25 per class.)

There are also books that are required, which you will need to purchase before class and bring with you. The books are available at www.amazon.com and/or www.cokesbury.com. 

Classes will be held at McKendree United Methodist Church (3537 Maiden Hwy, Lincolnton NC).

You must acquire the books before class and bring them with you. Books are available from Cokesbury.com if you wish to purchase; or you might be able to borrow one from your church.

• Saturday, August 28: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THIS COURSE: August 20, 4 p.m.
• REQUIRED: The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 2016
• OPTIONAL: Quick and Easy Guide to United Methodist Polity, by Anne L. Burkholder and Thomas W. Elliot, Jr.

 

You must pay online at the time of registration. Registration fee includes refreshments, snack breakfast and lunch.

** Certificates will be issued, which can then be used for CEU credit or for Catawba Valley District Advanced Lay Servant course credit.
