Greetings from David Christy, District Superintendent

Dear Catawba Valley Family,

I am excited to begin this season of ministry with you! I know that my learning curve is steep and I have big shoes to fill from Angela’s graceful leadership. I am enjoying learning more about the district and can already see why the strength of this district is so strong. It is because of YOU! Thank you for your leadership and your love of Christ. Pam and I are enjoying traveling around on Sundays to “drive-in” worship services. If you have one, could you let me know? My email is  dchristy@wnccumc.org or feel free to call the office at 704-865-3580.
In a training I am doing during July, I heard a phrase that someone shared who heard it from someone else (like good sermon illustrations!): “No secrets, no surprises, no subversions”. I hope to live that out in my role as superintendent. I hope that we can all do that in our relationships with one another. The calling of Christ on our lives is way too important to not deal with our shared ministry authentically and in a straight-forward manner.
Over the next few weeks we will have opportunities to “zoom” (because we just haven’t had enough!) and share what is working in this season of ministry. I am convinced that we can resource one another in this strange time. Yet, even with issues and viruses seeking to dominate our thoughts, there has never been a better time to be the Church and certainly never a better time to preach the Word! In my devotion this morning from Oswald Chambers in My Utmost For His Highest, he states, “The teaching of the Sermon on the Mount is not – Do your duty, but – Do what is not your duty.” What a great time to live that out!
Let’s bust that groove for Jesus and enjoy the beauty of our connection together. I am honored to be in mission and ministry with you!

In Christ’s Service,
David H. Christy
