Lay Servant Classes Offered

posted on September 12

The Catawba Valley District is offering 4 Lay Servant Class Opportunities: "Opening Ourselves to Grace: The Means of Grace and Discipleship", as well as 3 classes on Methodism (History, Doctrine, and Polity). All four of these courses meet the requirements for Advanced Lay Servant certification.

"Opening Ourselves to Grace: The Means of Grace and Discipleship"

Christian discipleship is a relationship with Jesus Christ not unlike that which you share with the one you love. When we accept his invitation to take up our cross daily and follow him (see Luke 9:23) we become his friends (see John 15:14-17) and members of his family (Romans 8:15-17; Galatians 4:1-7). This relationship is a matter of heart and life.

The "Opening Ourselves to Grace" Advanced Lay Servant course explores this relationship of grace and the basic practices of Christian faith and life from a Wesleyan perspective by examining John Wesley’s understanding of spiritual practice, Bible study, and other helpful resources.

Instructors: Richard Strachan and Jesse Caldwell

The sessions will be held on four (4) Sunday afternoons from 2pm - 4:30pm, via Zoom.

  • October 9
  • October 16
  • October 23

Attendance is required at all four (4) sessions to qualify for a course certificate. No exceptions will be made. This course qualifies as an Advanced Lay Servant course.
